Adding a calendar event to student calendars

When I try to add a calendar event to a student's personal canvas calendar (the calendar that is independent of courses), my api call returns saying it is unauthorized. Is there any permission I can request from my institution to be able to add events to student calendars, or is this just not permitted?

Hi Thomas - 

What you are trying to do is not permitted within Canvas. The only way to add an event to the calendar of another user is to do either through a course calendar or a group calendar.  The only person who can add an event to a user's individual (personal) calendar is the individual user themselves.
