Announcements need revamp of publish & dates

The Announcement dates feature is a royal pain. Why can't you add a publish or unpublish button without having to add a future date to avoid publishing? Why can't you add a batch edit feature for the dates like there is for assignments?

It's very inconvenient that announcements publish by default unless you play with the dates.
