Assignment Change Notifications

My students frequently receive assignment change notifications for assignments posted to unpublished modules that I'm working on. These are changes I'm making before publishing the module. I am not checking the box that states "notify students of this change." Am I able to turn this off from my end? Students are confused as they receive the notifications after I've published the module and they think I've made a change after they've already submitted the assignment. I don't want them receiving these, hence the reason I do not check the box!

Notifications are configured at the user level.  As an instructor, you cannot change notification settings of your students.  That is something that every user (student, teacher, TA, admin, etc.) needs to set up on his/her own.  If you go to your own "Account" >> "Notifications" screen, you'll see a row for "Course Content".  If you hover your mouse over "Course Content", a small pop-up help window will show to let you know this particular setting affects Pages, Quizzes, and Assignments.  This is where your students can turn notifications on/off, but it's entirely up to each student.  These notifications can be set up for their entire Canvas account as a whole...and they can configure these notifications on a per course basis, too.

I'm wondering if maybe you have your assignments published even if the module is still unpublished. Have you gone to the Assignment page to see if the individual Assignments are published (i.e. have the green circle-check instead of the gray circle-slash)?

Maybe that's a solution. The assignment is published but locked because it's lodged in the unpublished module. I'll try unpublishing it while editing and see if that solves the problem.
