Hi, fellow friends. Students' answers on their quizzes were marked correct whether answers were upper or lower case. Since the new quiz changed, the auto capitalization has caused most if not all answers wrong especially answers in lower case. I'm not understanding why "disable auto capitalization" is not available unless you know of a way to disable it. I'm not looking forward adding every word with upper case in the answer bank of every question. Any help please?
Solved! Go to Solution.
When you are editing a specific question in New Quizzes, you need to input the sentence/phrase with the word to replace with backticks. Then a new menu will display under the statement you are writing.

Hey @gmontgomery !
I would suggest looking at the following Community guide and reviewing the Close enough option where you can include or ignore case: How do I create a Fill-in-the-Blank quiz question?
Hope this helps!
Hi, Thank you for your reply. I did checked out and find that the statement in Close enough option isn't correct because Canvas do mark words with upper case wrong when the word should be lower case or vice versa when according to the option as stated in the attachment it shouldn't matter.
Hi @gmontgomery,
I do not have more specific information about the "Close Enough" option for New Quizzes and its Fill in the Blank question type.
The documentation from Instructure/Canvas does refer to Levenshtein distance for more information about the setting.
A couple of other institutions have published public resources that say something like:
I would recommend that you reach out to your Canvas team, Canvas CSM, or Canvas Support if you would like more assistance related to the feature or to report a problem with capitalization.

Ryan, thank you for your suggestion. I still wasn't able to see where I can modify using the info from "Close enough". I probably missed something somewhere. I ended up just adding another word with capitalization in the answer bank.

Ahh, sounds like it's what I'm looking for. I'll check it out. Thanks, Ryan Much appreciated
