I'm hoping someone can tell me what's happening in this problem and how to fix it. I've gamified my course, so I have to do a module for every element of my class so they can earn badges. I tried to set up check-in engagements (a single-question quiz that is only visible and unlocked for 24hrs on a certain day of the week).
The Problem
I have everything locked, but somehow students are still meeting the requirement for the badge (which is making a 100 on the quiz). How are they making a 100 when the quiz is locked and scheduled to open up at a later date? Students are gaining access to locked assignments. I even set the availability to only be available during that 24hr period.
They do not have access to the module page (I've set up a stylized homepage with links to the assignments). If they have a link but the assignment is locked and unavailable can they still get in? Can they get access to those items through the grade book? It does alert them that the assignment is coming up in the upcoming assignments box. Do I need to take the due date off and just send them a schedule announcement link to the quiz on the day it's available? I just don't know how they are accessing the quiz when it's locked and unavailable.

Okay, I didn't figure out what was causing it, but I did figure out a workaround. Just for clarity, the issue was with the modules. They were set up correctly, in terms of setting the requirements for the badge, but for whatever reason, Badgr was awarding the badges as soon as the badge was set up. After some thought, I decided to create a new module. I then added the assignment and set the requirements for the module. I then went back to Badgr, removed the old badge, and revoked the badges from the students. I then re-added the badge to the newly created module, and everything worked smoothly. There must have been some sort of glitch with how the original modules were created. SOLVED (sort of).
I did something similar with my statistics course and there's a lot of set up and coordination needed. It's easy to miss a step in the process.
I do not see the "Complete All Items" at the top of the module header. That makes me wonder if you have the modules properly configured like you think you do.
You don't have a screenshot of the Edit Module Settings for the 01-01 Check-in Challenge module to confirm, but that is where I would start. If there are no requirements, or it's set to "view the item" instead of "score at least", then what you're describing could happen. The "view the item" is the default and there are times I've missed changing it for some items since the process is tedious and highly repetitive.
After fixing things, you will probably need to relock the module. It sounds like you're on top of things, but in case someone else needs more information, they may check out How do I add requirements to a module? in the Canvas Instructor Guide.
Okay, you are right. The first week's check-in challenges did not have the requirements set to score at least, which meant that it defaulted to just viewing it would give the badge. I've updated the requirements, so that may fix my issue. I'll give that a try and see what happens this coming week. I did hear from my students. They said they were able to access it through the upcoming events block. Even though they were scheduled and locked, this gave them access and they could still view it. I'll try the requirement change first and see what happens. I also think I might remove the due date so it doesn't appear in the upcoming assignment box and then schedule announcements to give them the link when I open it up for the 24hrs. I'll keep the tread updated.
Okay, I think I'm still having an issue. It's not that they are getting access to locked content. What's happening is badges are being automatically even before requirements are met. I'll add more screenshots. It's locked. I've added the requirements, then I went and added the badge. It automatically gives them the badge. Tried removing the badge from the student, thinking that I set the badge up before having the correct requirements for achievement. However, even after re-adding it as a new badge, after a few seconds, the badges come back.
