Hi Everyone,
I'm curious if Canvas has a function where I can poll my students to provide answers to an open-ended question. For example, I'm interested in getting all 70 students' suggestions on a film to watch. Is there a feature on Canvas that makes this easy? I don't mind sifting through the responses to find the most-popular answers, just curious what the best way to perform this function is. Many thanks in advance.

@mwcampbe , greetings! What I do for things like this is use a survey (create a quiz in Canvas and then for type make it a non-graded survey). Once students reply you can download the results of the survey using the "Survey Statistics," which then makes it super easy to scroll through and review the replies to your question(s).
To download the results, go to the Survey, click on "Survey Statistics" (on the upper right), and then click on the "Student Analysis" button. This will create a CSV download that you can open in Excel.
Hope this helps! Kona

Yay! Glad it worked and thanks for letting us know!
That is a good idea. Gives students the chance to try out Canvas and take a poll at the same time.
Or, in other words: No, you cannot create a poll in Canvas. You can in other LMS's -- but, not Canvas.
