Can conferences be assigned to a specific section in a course?

Jump to solution

We are looking to use Big Blue Button as a conference tool.  Can it be set up for sections within a course so that the students in a particular section will "attend" the online session for their class?

Hello Niva,

You can't invite an entire Section, but there is the option to invite people from your course.

Go to this Canvas Guide and scroll down to see "Invite Course Member" and "Select Individual Members"

How do I create a conference in a course?

Alternatively, you could create Groups for each Section.  Each Group area includes Conferences.

Thank you for your response.  I see that I can select the students to whom I would like to invite to the conference.  If they were set up in groups how, or where, does that include conferences?  I don't see where under conferences I can invite a specific group, nor under the groups can I see how to start a conference?  Just trying to work through a plan for remote learning if the need arises.  Thanks.

Hi Niva,

You would have to create the Groups first.   Groups gives the students a collaboration space that looks like a mini Canvas course -- they can share files, create Announcements, create content Pages, have their own Discussions. Ass well as Collaborations and Conferences.   You can participate with them and look at all their shared content in that Space.

Here is more info on Groups from the Instructor Perspective:
