Can't reassign group assignments completed by individuals in speedgrader

I often create group assignments where students have the option of submitting individually. In speedgrader, when I leave comments for just these individual submissions, the comments disappear from speedgrader and are only available to me in PDF format if I click "download submission comments." This alone is aggravating, but more importantly I am prevented from clicking the "reassign" button for these students, since Canvas has in some sense forgotten that I left them any comments. No issue for group submissions, I can continue to see their comments in the speedgrader and I can reassign to them after leaving those comments. According to this article it's a known issue but I can't find anything about it from Canvas. Any thoughts? Thanks

Honestly, for the students who want to submit individually, I'd just have them in a group by themselves.  It seems there are a lot of little "gotchas" for group assignments or discussions where students are not members of any groups.  I'd love for Instructure to somehow address those, but I'm not even sure if there would be agreement on what the solutions would be.  Solution X might work for a lot of people, but completely break things for others.  Just assigning the individual students to their own group should go a long way to resolving the issues, though it is added work for the teacher.
