I've been bothered by this for a couple years now and thought surely there must be a solution, but after combing through these forums I found none.
Why are students able to see all the groups created in a course and why can they not only see their own groups?
I have over 200 students in a class each semester and break them out for multiple group projects and discussion boards. This can lead to students combing though hundreds of groups in the People tab when they only belong to four or five each semester. For one group project, where I create groups of 3, I have 70 groups associated with one assignment.
There needs to be a function wherein Instructors can limit students to see only the groups available to them. This should be an option if not a default. If I've missed this somewhere please let me know.

Hi @DrDrJ
Students can use the "Groups" tab to see only their groups. There is more info at https://community.canvaslms.com/t5/Student-Guide/How-do-I-view-my-Canvas-groups-as-a-student/ta-p/28...
