Canvas Moderation Issue

Hello!

In canvas, I have enabled moderated marking with 3 moderators and a final marker. The students have submitted the assessments and everything works except for this:

If the 1st moderator ( the one who marks a particular assessment first ), marks and save the rubric and marks for that student, this is selected as the default mark (highlighted with a box) by the system as shown in the picture below.

Now when this mark is highlighted and automatically selected as the mark by default, this moderator cannot go and change marks as this shows the following error.

The only way to change this is, for the final marker to mark it with a blank so that this default mark is removed and it has to be done manually.

This is not viable as the final marker is only meant to check after all moderators have marked the assessment. Moreover, out of the 3 moderators, when one of the mark is selected as default, this moderator cannot change their marks ( if mistakenly put in ).

Is there a fix for this?

Thank you.

Hi Deemal,

That is indeed strange. With regards to the moderated grading function, it should be that the graders (or markers) have access to a special Speedgrader view that they can place provisional grades in, like in this guide, and that the final marker has to go to a specific section to finalize the grade, shown here, which the students see when the grades are published. If they aren't seeing that, it's possible that something odd is happening with the setup of the assignment, or with the classification of the moderated markers.

I would recommend reaching out to Canvas support so that you can provide more clarity on what exactly is happening, and show them an example assignment and course.
