Canvas to Blackboard migration

Jump to solution

Hi BrainsTrust,

I know it's possible to migrate from Blackboard to Canvas, is it possible to do the reverse?

Don't fret Canvas-folk, we're not leaving the platform but I'd rather have my teaching material exported into BB rather than have to set it up manually! Smiley Happy

Cheers!

I'm sorry to report that no, I didn't. Ended up doing it the old fashioned way and reloading everything manually... 😕

That was a rough week - for everyone!

I think I may have figured it out!!
Export the Canvas course.  It automatically formats to the IMSCC format.
Import in Blackboard in Import Package/View Logs.   Upload that IMSCC file.
It ran and loaded content.  It will take some time for me to go through it all to make sure all went through.

The tech folks were suggesting that I upload it in a different area in Bb.   The Import Package is the route that worked.

@naomi2 , I’ll be honest I’ve never done this, but I’m assuming you would export your Canvas content using the following directions - How do I export a Canvas course? - and then import this file into Bb. I tried to find more information on the web (Google search) about this topic, but the only thing I could find was moving from Bb to Canvas (not the reverse) and the following from the Bb Community - Has anyone moved from Canvas to Blackboard? | Blackboard Community

Hope this gets you in the right direction!

Yeah,  I struggled to find any literature on it too. Looks like I'm going to be the guinea pig - I'll let everyone know how it goes Smiley Happy Thanks  @kona

Have fun! Can I ask why you need to get your Canvas content over into Bb? You’ve peaked my interest, especially since we can’t find information of others doing it.

If you found a way please let me know. I have an adjunct that just got hired at a Bb school and wants to copy her course over. I tried and export but the size of the file is way too small.

Has anyone discovered how to export Canvas content into a Blackboard course?

I adjunct at two different institutions.  One uses Canvas; the other uses Blackboard.

I've just spent two months building up my Canvas course with new materials including quizzes that I built from scratch.   I'd love to be able to import that content into my Blackboard course at the other college.

I've searched over the web and talked to both tech administrators at both colleges.  The general consensus is that you can move Blackboard to Canvas but not in the reverse.

I've tried exporting/importing the entire course, then just bulk files and quizzes, and then individual items.

Please share any solutions you may have found.

We also have adjunct faculty that work at multiple institutions and they needed to transfer their courses from Canvas to Blackboard. Fortunately I found a video on YouTube that shows, step by step, how to copy a Canvas course export file into Blackboard and it worked for our faculty.

There has to be a way to export just a quiz from Canvas to Blackboard. Has anyone figured it out yet? Canvas exports quizzes as qti zip files. But when I try to import it to BB as a "pool" using the option "Import QTI 2.0 package", the file seems to import, with no error messages, but there is no pool in the list afterward. Has anyone found a way to modify the qti file or something so that BB will import it? They clearly use the same format, since my BB quizzes import to Canvas no problem.
