Hello! my kid graduated from elementary to middle and he wants to see if he can change his homepage from homeroom to dashboard because he wants to use the aesthetic google extensions for canvas. Thanks!

Hi @AlexanderCurran ,
Thanks for posting on the instructure community!
As long as he is enrolled in one or more courses that don't use the Canvas for Elementary theme, he can click the 3 dots in the top-right hand corner of the screen (it will be to the left of important dates), and if he clicks on it and sees 'Classic View', he will be able to click on that and switch no problem. If he doesn't see that option, it's likely the school district disabled the functionality for it. I'll attach an image below for reference.
Hope this helps a bit!

hello i am having the same problem but the three dots aren't showing up on my canvas homepage i was wondering why it would be like this?
Thanks
Hi there @SanahJindal ,
I just recently found out that this is a functionality only visible to certain user roles! Unfortunately, even if you are enrolled in courses as a student that doesn't use the Canvas for Elementary global theme, if you are enrolled in at least one course that does use it, then it will override the default dashboard and will require you to use the homeroom view.
I apologize for the confusion!
Noah
Is there any way to know which class has the Canvas for Elementary global theme?
Hi @Freddybelle ,
Any Canvas course that has the Elementary theme enabled will look different from a traditional Canvas course.
The Elementary style of a Canvas course looks like this:
Other details such as fonts may change, too. However, that's the only way to know as a student / teacher. You will need to have admin access to be able to see what courses have the elementary theme enabled.
