Hi, I already had lecture slides open on a computer and started to do a quiz on my other device in another room. However, one of my friends used my computer while I was gone to command-f the slides for the same course I was writing the quiz for to complete another assignment for the class. The assignment was open book but the quiz was closed book. Will it show the professor I was using the command-f feature on the lecture slides if they were loaded and opened before I started the quiz? I would notify them directly to explain the situation that it was not me searching the slides but I don't want to start anything if there is nothing to worry about.

@user504034 Canvas does not record whether you use the "find" feature of a browser on a file. Canvas merely records when a file is accessed or downloaded. That said, I would recommend shutting down all other Canvas windows on all devices when taking a quiz to ensure there is no chance of a misunderstanding.
Hi @user504034,
As @james_whalley mentioned, Canvas itself doesn't really track use of a feature like find, but if your a school/district has Respondus Lockdown Browser, or online proctoring software there could be a lot of additional things logged outside of Canvas itself. This isn't a question we'll be well-equipped to answer here in the community because of the number of variables involved. I'd really suggest talking to your teacher about what happened if you are concerned. Being open and honest usually goes a long way in the world of education, but obviously can't make any promises.

Thanks for your reply! As a follow up question, will it update the time I accessed the file when I use the find feature or will it still show the time that I actually opened it before the quiz?
