In simple terms, we would like to cross-list courses taught at our university (using Canvas) for in-person, live-streamed, and online classes. All of these will be the same course taught by the same teacher, just with different modalities and section numbers. The classes have been approved and grouped by our Academic Scheduling. However, we have been told by the university Canvas tech people that it is impossible to cross-list different modalities in Canvas. I was wondering if that is true or if it is something that can be changed with some tinkering on the back end on their part.
It seems that this should be something Canvas should be able to do in a post-COVID world of university/college teaching.

Hi @KellieJohnson,
Canvas doesn't really know anything about "in-person", "live-streamed", or "online"--they are just different sections, and there's nothing to prevent them being cross-listed within Canvas, at least not from the Canvas side. (The course settings area has a "Format" setting, but that is just for informational purposes....) We have several courses where instructors have cross-listed their online and in-person sections.
