Delete a group without deleting the work

I would like to delete groups without deleting the assignments/grades for those groups. 

I have several group assignments, which are easily sorted as a teacher but not as a student. Is there a way to hide or delete groups that students no longer need so they don't show up as a long list for the students? Can they be sorted for students like they can be for teachers?

@lperkinsESHS23 I may be wrong, but I am pretty sure there is no way to retain the connection to an assignment after a group is deleted nor is there a way to hide old groups for students. 

Are you having the students self-enroll for groups? I am not used to them going to look at the full list of groups on the People page.

@james_whalley is correct. Canvas does not provide you with a way to hide groups (because they are intended to be there for students at all times), and once a group is deleted you can't exactly retain the assignment because it was a group submission. You should keep the groups, as well as keep the students in those groups until grades are completed and you're sure you don't need them anymore (i.e. during a course conclusion).

Bummer. I just tried grabbing the self-enroll links for groups, and the buttons all technically have the same link, so it's not even like you could just put the urls for the current set of groups on a page.
