Discussions not visible in course navigation

I am unable to see the discussions tab on the course navigation. When I go to settings > navigation it is enabled,  however after clicking save, it does not appear.  I believe the role I was added onto the course was as an observer, however I am able to edit if certain sections of the course navigation are visible to students. 

How do I get discussions to appear in the course navigation?

Hi @PhilippaHodgins ...

I believe that you'll need to have a chat with your school's local Canvas administrator about this.  Permissions for roles are controlled at the Canvas account level, so if you are an instructor, you wouldn't normally be able to change these kinds of permissions on your own.  If you can meet with your Canvas admin, that person should be able to share with you more info on what you have access to.  That person should also be able to help with the "Discussions" navigation tab, too.

According to what you're saying you were added as an observer. From my own personal experiences, I believe observers do not have access to view (at least reply to) discussions. Of course with a paid account that would be able to be changed by your canvas administrator for your institution.

Make sure you're also correctly saving your navigation settings as well, sometimes I don't save them correctly and it doesn't transfer over.

Also, if you don't have any discussions created for your course, the button probably will NOT appear, regardless if you have it enabled or disabled in your course navigation settings.
