Download a training I created into pdf or powerpoint format

For a training that I have created is there a way to download or export the training into pdf slides or powerpoint file so that I can send the students a copy of the slides of the training?

When you say you created a training, how exactly did you do that?  Did you use Canvas pages, modules, assignments, or something else?  If you can provide some of this info, someone might be able to give you some steps to export into one of the formats you mentioned.

I just created a powerpoint presentation with the training material I want to import into Canvas so that each slide in powerpoint will be a page in Canvas. I also have the same trainin as an exsiting self guided training that I have created in EdApp and I would like to import it into Canvas. Even from PDF if possible will be good because I can export the content to pdf. I just don't want to have to create the all training again.

Hi @GemaRuber,

Unfortunately, I don't know of a way to automatically take a powerpoint and convert it into a series of pages. In general, powerpoint slides are formatted to fill a scree (16x9 aspect ratio), but Canvas pages (as with most web platforms) are more of a dynamic format that changes as users resize their browsers, and varies based on the device they are using as well.  I would perhaps suggest trying to copy/paste from a powerpoint slide into a page to see how it looks.  Sometimes is may come out relatively well, but other times it could be a disaster, just depending on the complexity of the slide.  It's not ideal, but copy./pasting slide by slide and then fixing the formatting so it looks nice on a page may be the best way to go.

I also looked up EdApp, as I'm not familiar with that platform.  It appears EdApp is another LMS, and doesn't really connect to Canvas.  If EdApp happens to export content in the imscc (common cartridge) format, you could export from there and then import that package into Canvas relatively seamlessly.  I wish I was more familiar with EdApp to let you know for sure if this is possible, but I'm hoping the suggestion might help you investigate.

How about SCORM can you upload a SCORM file?

Hi @GemaRuber,

There is an external tool integration to provide some SCORM playback in Canvas, but since it's an external tool it may or may not be available in your Canvas instance.  You could connect with your local Canvas administrators (usually in the IT / eLearning / Digital Education areas) to find out if this is available to you.  A couple guides are located at:

As a Canvas admin for a higher-ed institution, I can tell you that we have chosen not to enable the SCORM tool because it's impossible to know whether the content there is going to be compatible with all of the different devices out students may be using to access Canvas.  Mobile devices in particular have more difficulty with SCORM than desktop-type devices.  Rather than trying to troubleshoot student issues one-by-one, which is not sustainable, we chose to not enable SCORM and direct our faculty to build things in Canvas as much as possible.

I know this isn't a definite answer, but I hope it helps a bit more.

How do I enable the SCORM LTI in External Apps at the account level on the Account level I cannot see where this option is available.

Are you a Canvas administrator for your school/institution?  If so, I would suggest reaching our to your customer success manager to inquire about enabling SCORM.  If you're a teacher, you'll need to reach out to your local Canvas admin team to see if it's something they'd be willing to enable.

Please, if someone on the Canvas team could respond to the above question, it would be helpful. I have spent much time building my course material. It is not an acceptable outcome for me that I cannot download my content as a PDF. I imagine there are many instructors who think the same way. Many thanks!
