Editing an announcement will NOT create a notification in the User Dashboard - why is it?

Hi everybody,

the following guide says, that "editing an announcement will create a notification in the User Dashboard...":
https://community.canvaslms.com/t5/Instructor-Guide/How-do-I-edit-an-announcement-in-a-course/ta-p/1...

I tried this with a test student. Unfortunately, no notification appears on the dashboard. What am I doing wrong?

Thanks for your help!

Hello @Alex911

Thank you for contacting the Canvas Community. We're sorry to hear you've been experiencing issues with editing announcements. The guide states that:

  • Editing an announcement will create a notification in the User Dashboard and Course Activity Stream. If you want users to receive the edited announcement via their notification settings, you will need to create a new announcement.

This should create a notification in the activity stream, but it won't render a new notification/email. You edited your announcement and then went into student view? Or you masqueraded as an actual student and confirmed it wasn't there? Not everything within student view is 100% represented as real students will see. Unless you are acting as a real student or logged in as one, it is likely that it won't display while a teacher is in student view.

Dear @greydon

thank you for your reply. Do you know, how the notification in the User Dashboard does look like? My colleagues and I tried it out, but for any reason it seems like there is no notification in the User Dashboard.

Thank you very much for your help.
