Can I embed a pdf file? If yes, how please?

Hi @CarinMcKinney,

You can follow the How do I embed documents from Canvas in the Rich C... - Instructure Community guide. The key part is the View Link Options section of the guide at the bottom, be sure to click "preview inline" and "expand by default" for your PDF to show to users.
