Extra Credit Question

I know there are many ways to create an extra credit assignment, but I still haven't found one that's a great fit for me.

I want to have a discussion forum post that adds as much as an extra point to the student's final average. Could I create it as a zero point assignment, but still give a point to those who complete it? (Essentially overriding the zero with a 1 in gradebook?)

My purpose is to be able to add a point to some students' grades without causing a "ding" to the grades of those students who don't do the assignment.

Hi,  @dschulz ‌, I offered extra credit in nearly the exact way you described when I was teaching. You'll want to place the discussion (or any other extra credit assignment) in its own assignment group contributing 0% to the total grade; you would only change that weighting at the end of the semester or term, after all of the assignments in the course have been graded and locked. Please refer to Extra credit using weighted assignment groups.‌ for details.
