Dear Canvas Development Team,
I am writing to highlight a pressing issue with Canvas SpeedGrader regarding the PDF zoom functionality. While image files now adapt to fit the viewing window, PDFs unfortunately do not benefit from the same feature.
Many educators have voiced their concerns (I have linked to forum posts that have been incorrectly marked "Solved"):
Inadequate PDF Zoom Out Capability: As discussed by community members like nathaniel_eldre and boshaughnessy, PDFs with large page sizes are difficult to manage in SpeedGrader. An inability to effectively zoom out means excessive scrolling and difficulty in viewing entire pages.
Need for Default "Zoom to Fit" View: The current hard-coded resolution is not practical for many classroom scenarios. Educators like sbridge have noted the added burden of manually adjusting the zoom for each submission. Implementing a "Zoom to Fit" default would alleviate this frustration and streamline the grading process.
We urge the team to extend the existing image resizing solution to PDFs, making "Zoom to Fit" the default view. This change would significantly improve the grading experience, allowing educators to focus on evaluating student work rather than battling technical constraints.
Thank you for your attention to this matter. We look forward to a resolution that enhances the functionality and usability of SpeedGrader for all users.
