Hide Rubrics

Hello Canvas by Instructure team,

I am reaching out to request a new feature for Canvas that addresses a concern expressed by instructors at my institution. Currently, there is no way to fully hide rubrics associated with assignments from students. Instructors have shared that they would prefer rubrics to be hidden from students, particularly when the rubric is not being used as part of the grading. From what I have been told, in these cases, seeing the rubric can confuse students and may influence their assignment submissions by prompting them to include irrelevant content.

After contacting Canvas support, I was informed that this functionality is not yet available. It would be incredibly helpful for instructors if Canvas could implement an option to completely hide rubrics from students.

Like @Hildi_Pardo , I can see this being a useful idea to suggest. It would allow the rubric to be still attached for your reference, but hidden from students.

As a workaround for now, if you (or your instructors) are not intending to use a rubric for an assignment, I'd suggest just remove it. Go to the bottom of the assignment and it will show the rubric. Just hit the trash can to unlink it from the assignment.

This will not remove the rubric from the course and it can still be found by going to Rubrics or by reattaching it using the Find Rubric option (which is what will appear in this location after you unlink it). If you do not want students to find it, you will want to go to Settings and drag the Rubrics option to the lower list to hide it from students.
