Hiding Grades

I wanted to bring to your attention an issue related to hiding grades from students in Canvas. At first glance, it seems that setting the Grade Posting Policy to "Manually Post Grades" would be sufficient to prevent students from viewing their scores before grading is complete. However, this is not the case.
Currently, each assignment requires multiple additional steps to ensure grades are fully hidden: navigating to Build, opening Settings, selecting Hide Grades, and then manually deselecting all of the preset visibility options. If any of these steps are missed, students may see partial or inaccurate grades—especially when assignments include manually graded components, which default to zero until graded. While these grades may not be officially posted to the Gradebook, their visibility still causes significant confusion and often results in a flood of concerned emails from students.
To improve the user experience for both instructors and students, I kindly request that either:
The default settings be changed to automatically hide grades until they are intentionally released, or
The Grade Posting Policy be updated to fully control grade visibility for all types of assignments.
This change would significantly reduce confusion and streamline the grading process for instructors.
