How do I change the role of a person from student to participant

How do I change the status of a person in CANVAS from student to participant? A student in my class has decided (and has received permission) to drop the class as a student but wishes to continue to audit the course.

If you have permission to change user role as a teacher, this guide will show you how How do I edit user roles in a course? 

Many schools, mine included, do not permit teachers to do this. If the functionality described in that guide is not available to you, then you will need to contact your school's Canvas admin/support department to take care of this for you. I did find the Digital Learning page for Northwestern, where you might find the help you need.
