Hi,
I have copied a previous course, including all announcements, but I would like the students to see them, when I think it is time to post them, not from the beginning of the course. (The students are already enrolled in the course, and its published).
How do I do that?
And is the "lock/undlock" function a solution? I cannot find any explanation on that.
Thanks,
Jeppe

Hello @jsc ...
In addition to the information that @Bobby2 provided to you, another option for you might be to use a sandbox course. (If you don't have one of these, talk to your local Canvas administrator who might be able to set one up for you.) Basically, you could copy your announcements to your "sandbox" course, and then when you are ready to release them, just copy them to your current course as needed. That way, when you copy content from one course to another before the start of the semester, you aren't having to edit all your announcements to set delay dates on them.
Rats. Apologies. I just went in and tried to edit one of my announcements and the date option wasn't there. I'm so sorry!
Hi @jsc nd welcome to the Canvas Community.
Great question. Here's a guide for delaying your announcement posts https://community.canvaslms.com/docs/DOC-10422-415250735
Enjoy.
Thanks, but I can´t see how I delay an announcment, that is already there. The "delay" option is available, when you create an announcment.

No one answered as to whether or not locking announcements worked. Still confused.
Why can't they simply add a "show/hide" checkbox?
yes please, hide/show or some version of that would be awesome.
Please add your voice to this idea conversation:publish/unpublish announcements.
This idea is 7 yrs old and there is yet to be a solution!
Hi @MARGARETHOLZER ...
Feature Ideas aren't the only source of how Instructure ultimately decides on what things need to be worked on / added / changed in Canvas. In this document, it describes other feedback sources that Instructure utilizes for getting feedback:
What is the feature development process for Instructure products?
I had the same issue. Yes, you can import them into a Sandbox, as one user said. The alternative is to open each announcement, one by one, click on edit, and then delay posting by selecting the dates you want your announcement to become available. This is tedious, but doable. It would be nice if Canvas simply provided an option to Hide the announcement, like it does for almost everything else on Canvas.
What a PITA. I'm wondering if anyone has done any scriptmonkey work to automate this process.
Is there any updates to this question? What happens when you "Lock" an Announcement? Can the students still see the Announcement, but just not be able to access / open it?
