How do I make an assignment template for students to fill out directly and submit?

Among our students there are groups that need simple IT-solutions. A math teacher has asked me to find a solution so that his students do not need to copy-paste questions or download and upload a Word document. He wants a simple form/template that the student can fill out in Canvas and submit.

Do you have any suggestions?

@SaraMoeller You can do this with the new Google Assignments 1.3 LTI.  Once you enable this (if you are a Google school), you can select it as an external tool submission which will walk you through the process of picking or creating a template from a Google doc/sheet/slide.  Ultimately this is creating a digital worksheet.  I know Microsoft is working on a similar tool but last I heard it had been delayed.  Other than that, every idea I can come up with will involve some level of downloading or uploading on the students' part.

Whenever I have a document I want to “give” to others, I make it in Google Docs and share it as forced copy.  
In the share link instead of /edit change it /copy. The students will need access to a Gmail account though.

I’ve used that before, but for math it’s really only useful if the student is using a touchscreen (using a mouse/trackpad to draw out math is very tedious).

Thank you so much for your help, @Chris_Hofer  I definitely think that this option will be popular with some of our teachers although maybe not math teachers 🙂

We use the Danish version of Canvas and the Danish translation of 'Student Annotation' makes no sense at all 🤔 But now I know what hides behind this possibily thanks to you!
