Hello,
We have several Kaltura videos posted on a single Canvas page. They use the transcripts feature in Kaltura.
I am adding other elements below the Kaltura videos, but there's a largeish white space after the videos.
I found this note saying that this was a known issue on April 15, 2022:
I'm wondering if any progress has been made on this issue since then- have they found a solution other than "don't use the transcripts"? That is not an option for us.
I'm going to check with Kaltura as well, but any workarounds that allow the use of the transcript would be appreciated.
thanks,
Elizabeth

Thanks for these informative replies, Chris.
I had worked with our admin and adjusted the embed size settings prior to posting. However that didn't work to fix the problem.
We have decided to live with the white space. Maybe Canvas can find a way around this. As I noted in my initial post, it's been a "known issue" since 2012.
Hi @ElizabethMcGraw,
This would be something to discuss with your university Kaltura administrator(s), which would probably be in the IT or Digital Education departments. There are Kaltura settings which define the size allocated for the Kaltura player, and sounds like those need to be adjusted to eliminate the white space. Now as a note, if you collapse the transcript widget (if that's allowed for you), the space it occupied previously will become whitespace, and there is nothing you can do about that. I'm both a Canvas and a Kaltura admin for my institution, so I'm pretty versed in this issue.
I hope this helps a bit, but feel free to reach back out here if you have more questions!
-Chris
Thanks for your quick response, Chris.
The Kaltura admin and I have looked at this together, and we've also fiddled around with the embed sizes, but it didn't address the issue.
Interesting to hear you note that even if we collapse the transcripts feature, there will still be a space underneath. I tested that by simply turning off the transcripts, and as you said, the white space remains.
Itsounds like the issue may lie on the Kaltura side. If I find out anything more, I'll post here.
thanks,
Elizabeth
Hi @ElizabethMcGraw,
Here are the custom dimensions we use for our embeds (we have a 34px high player bar, so if you're is different adjust the heights accordingly)... We use BSEv3, so the user doing the embed chooses whether they want the transcript included or not.

If your Kaltura admin has questions about this, they can reach out to me here anytime.
