How to remove 'New Activity' indicator

I have an unread notification from a previous class in the Grades section, and I have looked everywhere in the section as well as the course as a whole and can't figure out where it is. None of the grades have the red dot like usual, despite the notification on the Grades section in the course. I was hoping that when I completed the class the notification would go away but that wasn't the case. Hopefully someone here can help.

I have already looked at the two other topics that had people asking similar questions, but they were not helpful to me. They were these two:

I have attached screenshots showing my problem.

Thank you @DylanRose67 for including screenshots and welcome to the Community! I did some testing and could not replicate your experience. Like the second of the questions you linked from yours, my student user had to select the link for an item on the Grades page to make the dot disappear. I then had my instructor user unpublish an assignment that had the dot (no submission there) and delete another assignment that had the dot (deletion required because there was a submission), and in both cases the dot count reflected those changes as expected.

I then thought of another possibility: what if my instructure user change who the assignment applied to by using the option for differential due dates? This had the effect you described: If my student user had not selected the item on the Grades page (so had the dot) and then the instructor user edited the assignment so that student no longer could see or complete the assignment, the Grades link for the student user still showed they had unviewed feedback but they could no longer see the item in order to view the feedback. When my instructor user edited the assignment so that student user could see or complete it, the unviewed feedback dot reappeared.

So my guess is that's what happened in your case: the instructor edited the assignment in some way so that you can no longer complete it but you have unviewed feedback from when you could complete it. I've done this before when I want to give one student an extension on an assignment but accidentally taken away the ability every other student to view the assignment. The best place to go next is the instructor for your class that has the persistent dot.

I'm going to be hopeful and mark this reply as a solution. If I'm wrong, you can unmark it as a solution and hopefully another Community member can provide a better reply.
