How to set an Enrollment Duration for students entering an Open-Entry/Open-Exit course

How can we set an Enrollment Duration for students entering a course without an end date?

For example, students access the course, which activates their enrollment in the course, and sets an expiry date when the individual student’s enrollment expires (e.g., 45 days).

Our goal is to offer courses that are essentially open-entry and open-exit once a course is launched. Each student entering the course has an enrollment duration of 45 days. The student is automatically unenrolled in the course, or their enrollment is deactivated when their enrollment expires.

Hi @D_Montgomery 

You can set an enrollment start and end date when creating an enrollment with the API, or with an SIS feed file, but there's no way to automatically set a date limit when students are self-enrolling in a course using the built-in "self enroll" functionality.

If you are using Catalog, you can set the course listing up with a time limit on the enrollment when students enroll through the Catalog listing--Catalog does this by creating a new Canvas section for each student--but of course, that's not the same as an open enrollment course in Canvas.

Is there a way to add a duration to a Course after it's been manually created?  Or during manual creating of a Course? 

Each of our learners are enrolled through admin, but on different dates.  So each learner has their own course dates, but they all need the same duration.   Whether they start in January or July.  

All I can see is the "pick a date" option for start and finish.  I want to enter "number of days" or "number of weeks".

There isn't a "number of days" duration option for enrollments in Canvas.  The way systems like Catalog do it is to create a new section within the course for each student that enrolls, and set the start date for the section to be the date the student enrolls, and and the end date for the section to be "x" number of days later.

You could replicate those steps if you are manually enrolling students in a course, by creating the new section for the student in the course, setting the dates on the section, then enrolling the student in their section.
