Is there a way for a online learning mentor to view ALL grades for a student at once. Students have the ability to access a list of their grades in each course on one page. However, as their mentor, I have to visit each course separately to gather that same information. Is there a place I could view all grades at once for students, or could Canvas allow this feature for course instructors/admin in the same way students can view it.
Solved! Go to Solution.
What you describe, @ValerieBelill, is a timesaver and is something that is possible for users enrolled as Observers. I did a test and made one user an Observer for the same student in two separate classes. When the Observer user goes to their ...instructure.com/grades page, they see the grades for each course for each of their linked students. Embedded is a screenshot for the user Elanor Gamgee, who is an Observer linked to Frodo Baggins in both of Frodo's classes.

Yes - this is the view I'm hoping to be able to access for teachers. I am a mentor teacher for some of my students and need to keep track of their grades in all of their courses. I guess I could make an observer account and connect myself to all of them that way? I'd love to just be able to do it from my teacher account. Do you have insight on that? Thank you, Gregory! 🙂
It's possible for the same user to have multiple roles within a course, but that throws off Canvas when that user tries to do certain actions. I ran into this a few weeks ago when a colleague couldn't do something (I can't remember what it was) that they should have been able to do as a Teacher. I spent several minutes poking around and then saw on the People page that the same user was enrolled as a Student. When I reset their role to Teacher only, that cleared up the problem right away.
If ending up in this situation is a risk for you, I would ask your friendly admins to create a second user for you that can use as an Observer. I am a subaccount admin and a professor at my college, and my friendly admins created a second user for me that I use when I'm doing my admin work (like helping other faculty!).
Thank you for the suggestion! I appreciate your time. 🙂
