I want to drop the midterm score if students perform better on the final.

I have my course set up such that exams count for 60% of the grade. I have one midterm worth 25 points and one final worth 35 points. I want to be able to drop a student's midterm grade if they perform worse on the midterm than on the final. I thought I could tell Canvas to drop the lowest score in the exam category with the stipulation that the final exam should never be dropped. But when I tested this, it doesn't drop the midterm, even when the midterm score is worse than the score on the final exam. I'm wondering what's wrong with my logic and if there's a workaround.

I wonder if the problem is that your exams have different point values. I think this rule would have worked if the point value for each was 30 points.
The workaround this semester would be not to use the "rule," and instead go to your Gradebook and mark the scores you wish to drop as "excused" (EX).
