Hi, Everyone,
Our college reports student grades to academic coaches so they can outreach to the student. Faculty can successfully report a student grade using the following flow of actions.
However, some faculty were going to grades (using "grades" on the left column in Canvas) and using the individual gradebook. After selecting grades, they would choose the down arrow on the gradebook option in the upper left corner and select "individual gradebook." Then, under content selection, the faculty would choose the student for whom the grade was being reported in the "select a student" area. In this view, the average is not accurate. The quiz grade is not showing on this view which result in an inaccurate final average.
Can you help me determine why the individual gradebook is not accurate in the teacher view?
Thanks,
Melissa
I noticed the same issue a few days ago, that some grades are not shown in the Individual Gradebook View.
I was with a student at the time, and forgot to check it later, but I believe it's the same issue that you have: Grades are posted and visible on the full Gradebook and on the student's Grade page, but showing as a "-" in the Individual View Gradebook.
For me, it looks like it happens for Assignment Groups that have just a single assignment grade that matters (whether because the group has a single assignment, or because it has 2 but has a rule to drop one of the grades).
There is a previous thread where I noted that the problem we have is that the Canvas Grade is not, and will never be, the final reported grade/ GPA.
The simple rationale for that is that our Registrar needs control over average calculations and will not yield that to Canvas.
Additionally, we apply penalties and/or caps on marks according to lateness, misconduct etc. and these are applied on our SIS side rather than in Canvas.
You could clarify whether you are using Classic Quizzes or New Quizzes. It has taken four years for New Quiz activity (participation0 to be reported in New Analytics, and I've still found gaps between different views of what should be the same data.
If you are getting an anomaly it would be worth escalating it through your Canvas success manager, as this could have fairly serious ramifications.
