Inquiry Regarding New Quizzes and Feature Plans for the Open Source Version of Canvas

Hi there,

I'm currently using the open source version of Canvas LMS and was wondering if there are any plans to bring features like New Quizzes or other SaaS-exclusive functionalities to the open source version in the future.

Additionally, is there an official place where I can track updates, release plans, or feature parity discussions for the open source version specifically?

Hi @gentle-penguin,

I do not use the open source or self-hosted version of the Canvas LMS. With that said, if you are not already, I would encourage you to follow:

1. activity that happens within Instructure's GitHub resposities
   • https://github.com/instructure
   • https://github.com/orgs/instructure/repositories (for more specific aspects)
   • https://github.com/instructure/canvas-lms (for the main aspects of the LMS)
2. the Canvas Release Notes and Deploy Notes

Someone else might be able to reply back with more specific recommendations but these are probably the best to start with.

On a related note to how you asked about New Quizzes. Without any specific insight, my guess would be that New Quizzes will not be available to open source or self-host instances until it is an option to use with Canvas Free for Teachers at https://canvas.instructure.com.
