Is it possible to disable a user account and prevent the user from accessing Canvas? Or must I delete the user account?

However, too many times it is advantageous to keep the user (disable them) so that your are also keeping all of the data associated with the user (grades for students, classroom management for teachers etc.); which is likely why you are asking. What we do is append characters to their User ID. We can find them if we need them, but they cannot get in.
I am likely not the only admin who would like a "Disable" or "Inactivate" user feature at the account level.
