Is there a simple way to move a lot of files from a two-year old course to a current one?

Hello  @colin_mclarty ...

Absolutely!  You can select specific parts of a course to import into another course.  All you need to do is to sign in to the course where you want to copy the files to (not the course where the course files currently exist), and then follow the instructions in this Guide: How do I select specific content as part of a course import?.
