LockDown Browser Copy Paste

I’m trying to find a way to use LockDown Browser with automated proctoring while still allowing students to submit cited essays. Is this possible?

I’ve read that depending on our institution’s settings, this might be allowed—but I’m not sure how to check whether clipboard access is enabled.

My hope is that students could prewrite their essays in Word, including citations, then copy the text, launch the quiz, and paste it into the response field. Since the text would come from a Word document (not a browser or online source), I’m wondering if that makes a difference.

Is there a way to make this work? Thank you!

In my experience of using Lockdown Browser, I could never figure out a way to allow students to paste into the browser during a test. I firmly believe that it is actually coded that way to minimize cheating, as that's what the purpose of Lockdown Browser is for, and there isn't a way to disable it. I was in the same situation as you not too long ago when I was giving my students in my computer science class an exam, they weren't able to paste any code they pre-wrote, regardless where they were trying to copy and paste it from.

Of course, I was only a Teacher and not an Admin, so there's definitely a possibility that there's something the Admin can enable that teachers cannot see.

I wonder if this is worth forwarding to your school's IT / Canvas admin to see if this can be enabled? Or to Respondus?

If you are looking to have your students prewrite their essays using Word (or something else), is there a reason why you are not creating a Canvas assignment?

One of the reasons why I ask is because copying and pasting from Word to Canvas (or from one piece of software to another) typically leads to provides with formatting. Since (most) essays have a style guide that should be followed, there might be problems during the copy and paste process.

It seems like we might need more context for what you are trying to accomplish and also why. I have other questions and thoughts bouncing around in my head but I need more information.
