Loss of editing tools on turned in assignments from Google Drive

So, when having students turn in essays from Google Drive, I have lost the ability to edit them right in Canvas.

I have been having students submit their rough drafts and graphic organizers via Google Drive LTI 1.3. On any of them that were turned in before yesterday, I had a toolbar that allowed me to highlight things, leave a comment, put a pin, strike something out, and leave a comment. I had two students submit the same assignment today, and that toolbar option has disappeared for those students' assignments. 

I'm confused as to why that is the case. When I revisit a student's assignment that I have already graded, the toolbar is still there. When I go to the recently turned-in ones, the taskbar isn't there. It doesn't make any sense.

We're not a Google school, but we've encountered something similar when students submit a link to a document via a "text entry" submission. Clicking on the link opens the same built-in viewer, but without the markup tools that are available if they use the "upload" button (or whatever the correct button is for your Google integration).

It is also possible that there is something wrong with the Google LTI right now. Yours is not the only question about this today.

Hello, I just wanted to check in with you @personthatisran to see if you were still encountering this issue.  I can't replicate it on my Canvas instance.  I tried submitting Google LTI assignments several ways and could always suggest or annotate.

It only happened on a select few, and it hasn't happened since. Just weird. But, it is what it is.

Gotta love tech and the little quirks we encounter!  Glad the issue resolved itself.
