We have installed the new Microsoft Education LTI into our Canvas instance, however we are having issues with creating recurring Teams meeting. The calendar glitches (starts automatically moving both the start and end calendars back by a day on a continuous loop) and the meeting cannot be created. Individual (non-recurring) meetings are working as expected. This is happening across browsers. We enabled the "course nav disabled" version.
Is anyone else encountering this issue? If so, was it a Microsoft Education fix or is there a setting that may need to be adjusted or a conflicting tool (the older Teams meetings LTI, for example) that may be causing this error? We have not yet removed the old tool as we are still testing the new one. Or is this only happening in the "course nav disabled" version, regardless?
I have attached a recording of this behavior that we are experiencing.
Hi @hjcristea thanks for reaching out! I've had a similar concern last week. Please review these options below and let me know if any of them work for you. Thanks!
Troubleshoot Microsoft Teams sync error with your LMS
Using the Microsoft Education Integration in Canvas
Thank you for the reply. For clarification do we still have to sync separately if we are using the new Microsoft Education with Canvas?
No, if you are using the new Microsoft Education integration with Canvas, you do not have to sync separately.
The new integration is designed to consolidate the functionality of previous separate tools like Teams Classes, Teams Meetings, and OneDrive into a single, unified experience. Once enabled, the integration handles the synchronization of your Canvas course roster with Microsoft Teams automatically.
While the sync is automatic, you can still perform a manual sync if needed, especially the first time you enable the integration or after making changes to enrollments. The new system is designed to streamline the process, creating and updating your Teams class automatically based on your Canvas course enrollment.
I hope this helps!
We are experiencing this same issue. (The old MS Teams classes is no longer available in the navigation menu.)
Hi @tacowley thanks for letting me know. Have you tried the resources I've given? This might be a better guide Use Microsoft Teams classes in your LMS
Hello @marvinordonez ,
Thank you for linking to guides. However, I have reviewed them and I have not seen anything that addresses the calendar date glitch issue. I have not received any sync error messages and the sync seems to be working with everything correctly; the only glitch seems to be the calendar issue for the reoccurring meetings. The LTI tool seems to be installed properly and I can enable them and make non-reoccurring meetings without any issue. This calendar issue is only presenting when trying to make the appointment a reoccurring one. Is there a specific step/place I am missing that would address the issue itself?
Hi @hjcristea good to hear from you!
It's a good idea to also double-check with Microsoft, since Microsoft Education LTI is an external tool.
An option as a workaround, create the meeting as a single, non-recurring event within the Canvas LTI. Once the meeting is created, go into Microsoft Teams or Outlook to edit the meeting and set it as recurring from there. This allows you to bypass the glitch in the Canvas interface while still having a functional recurring meeting.
I truly hope this helps!
Thank you @marvinordonez - if it happens again, I will certainly try that workaround! For now, we submitted a support request with Microsoft Education and it seems to be working as expected!
