Can "People" added to the course with the role of "Peer Support" (e.g., student tutor) be removed from the Gradebook?

Hi @KevinKiser ,
I'm a CSM, part of the EMEA team. By default, anyone enrolled in a course with a student like role (able to submit work or receive grades) will automatically appear in the Gradebook. There isn’t a built-in setting to hide only certain roles while keeping them enrolled. You cannot selectively hide specific roles from the Gradebook.
Here are some approaches and resources that might help:
- Adjust the Role Type (Admin Help Needed)
- Ask your Canvas admin to create or edit the Peer Support role to be based on Observer or TA instead of Student.
- Admins can customize permissions so peer supporters can access course materials and help students without being graded.
What user roles and permissions are available in Canvas? - Adjust Permissions Without Changing the Role Type
- Disable “graded” permissions for the Peer Support role if it’s purely for support, not participation.
How do I manage course-level user permissions? - Use Filters for Easier Navigation
- While it won’t hide peer supporters permanently, you can filter the Gradebook by sections or custom filters to reduce clutter.
How do I use filters in the Gradebook?
Cheers,
Jay
