Hi,
Our Canvas site has enhancements turned on. I normally set up assessments as an 'Online File Upload' and turn the Turnitin Plagiarism Review on.
This semester I have set the assessment up as an external tool > Microsoft OneDrive LTI 3 assignment with a template. I notice that there is no option to turn the Plagiarism Review: Turnitin on when this type of submission is selected.
Can anyone tell me if this type of assignment will run through Turnitin to generate an Originality score when students submit?
If yes: Are there any Canvas Student Guide instructions, I can provide to students & staff.
If no: Can this feature be 'turned on' by my admin?
If no: Could a work around be to set up the assessment as an 'Online File Upload', turn the Plagiarism Review on and instead provide students with the template as an 'embedded' document with in the page? Would this mean that they could work on the assignment, and just upload the file when they were ready to submit?
Hope this all makes sense.
Thanks

Hi @KLS3,
As you have discovered, plagiarism detection tools (Turnitin and others) are not available for extermal tool type assignments. Generally you can only use plagiarism detectors with online submissions of text entry or file uploads. In your case, the workaround you suggested might be the best option. Provide the students with a "template" document to download and fill in themselves, and have them submit that file back to the assignment as a file upload.
One caveat i'll mention, as we've run into it in the past, is that when you're using template-type assignments with plagiarism detection, you may start to see some of your template content (questions, directions, etc) marked as plagiarized because every submission will include that same language. Just keep that in mind when looking at the plagiarism score.
Hope this helps!
