A published module gets automatically unpublished when I edit it. Is there any reason for this?

Steps to create this:

  1. Open a course in Canvas.
  2. Go to the Published module, and click the Options menu (3 vertical dots).
  3. Select Edit.
  4. Make changes to the module settings such as locking the module, adding prerequisites, or requirements.
  5. Click Update Module. Check the status of the Module, it is set to Unpublished.

We need to either refresh the page or re-publish the module to see the status as Published. Is this a bug?

That's a good observation.  I'm not entirely sure of an answer for you, though.  I was searching the Community for relevant documentation, but I wasn't coming up with anything with a good explanation.  I looked in these places:

But then I also looked at this blog post from Instructure's Allison Howell: Coming Soon: Bulk Publish and Unpublish Modules! - Instructure Community (canvaslms.com).  While it might not directly answer your question, I think that posting your question to that blog would be worthwhile.  It looks like Allison has been replying to people, so you might also get a response from her there, too.

Or, you could submit this as a potential issue to Canvas Support: How do I get help with Canvas as an instructor?

Thank you for directing me to the blog post from Allison Howell. There were other users who ran into the same issue and one of them submitted a support ticket already. The Canvas team is aware of the issue and working on a solution.
