Multiple Hotspot has an unfortunate feature of generalizing the points received by the student for a particular question based on finding all relevant spots in the image. This is fine for questions that require completely finding all of the spots, but lacks the flexibility of being able to partially grade students based on their correct answers alone. For example, if an instructor wanted students in Chemistry to find all relevant functional groups in an image of a molecule using hotspot and awarding 1 pt each for each correct identification, a single mistake in their identification leads to the loss of all possible points for that question alone. It seems the feature to manually grade each spot is not yet available in Canvas, and I have resorted to manually regrading each hotspot question to reflect the number of correct answers in the question. Could this feature be added to Canvas in the future? Or are there other question types more suitable to the example given above? I'd love to hear any opinion or support regarding this. Thank you in advance!
Hello there, @dabriones ...
It sounds like you are suggesting an enhancement to the current "hotspot" question type within Canvas New Quizzes. I'm not sure if you are aware or not, but there is a separate area here in the Canvas Community website where you can submit ideas like this for consideration. You can find it at: Canvas Ideas - Instructure Community. However, please know that the entire idea process is on hold at the moment as the Community team at Instructure is working on a new process for us to suggest new ideas and vote on them. You can read more about this at: Turning Your Feedback into Better Prioritization and Release Processes: Our Path Forward.
Also, I wanted to provide you with a handful of Guides on how to submit your idea to the Community:
I hope these links will be of help to you. Good luck!
