Hello All:
I have a discussion post/forum assignment, that requires a slight twist. In addition to creating their initial post, I am asking my students to also post a 2 questions (based on readings) for class discussion. At the end of the posting period, I would like my students to get back into the discussion forum and vote on the top 3 questions posted by their peers. For now, I have created 3 discussion prompts - one asking for summary, and each of the others for the questions. Is there a more efficient/cleaner way to do this in Canvas? I thought of using Padlet - but the cost is a deterrent. Please, let me of any alternate/feasible approaches.
cheers, Emma
Hello @EmmanuelKoku
Have you considered the Like setting option?
How do I allow students to like replies in a cours... - Instructure Community - 1220
Thanks Jeff. Yes, I am aware, and currently set it us using the Like setting. But to ensure that students like a question at a time, I had to ask them to responses to three separate posts, instead of a single one:
Though a bit inelegant, I hope it works. Still looking for a different solution, though.
cheers, Emmanuel
Another challenge , @Jeff_F, is that Canvas Likes work only with replies, not with original posts.
Anyway, the issue really is how do you disaggregate one piece of text? In the context, the answer is, you can't. Even the vaunted Padlet won't help you there, @EmmanuelKoku. What you are saying is the student should input in a single text block two questions, and people should be able to separately like them. Not happening. Think about how you would do this in Padlet - you would ask students to make 2 separate posts for the two questions. And then they can be separately liked. So, do the same in Canvas discussions.
And you can ask them to like their top 3 - and then you'll have to count which ones have the most likes - Canvas doesn't let you sort replies by likes.
