Removing the Important Dates tab

Im trying to make my canvas more organized, but having the important dates tab on the side of my canvas everytime I open it has become annoying. Its visible on my Ipad and computer. There are no important dates on it, and plus I already have the canvas calendar to tell me about events. I've tried to remove it, but I just dont know how.

Your screenshot shows hints of classes that suggest possibly being a high school student. If true, the Important Dates panel is part of the Elementary Canvas User Interface. This is intended to be used with lower grades, but then turned off for later grades. Instead, you should seeing something like "To Do" (assignments to submit), "Recent Feedback" (feedback from teachers), and "Coming Up" (assignments with upcoming due dates). If you are a high school student, look in the upper right for a 3-dot menu on your Dashboard (to the left of Important Dates). In that menu, you will want to change from Homeroom to Classic View. If you do not have that option, then your district admin has likely locked it down. You will want to talk to your teacher, who can reach out to whomever is at your district that can go into administrative settings. I just wanted to add on to what @JeffCampbell mentioned.

Switching from homeroom view to classic view is a feature only available to teachers. If you are enrolled in at least one course as a student with the elementary theming enabled, Canvas will override the standard theming and will present you with the elementary theming.

Since it appears you are no longer in need of resources from your elementary school, I recommend seeing if there's a way to unenroll yourself from the course that has the elementary theming enabled. If you cannot unenroll yourself, and the course doesn't matter to you, you could try reaching out to your school's IT department so they can help you unenroll. You will then have access to the default interface that Jeff mentioned above. 

However, you cannot disable the To-Do list, regardless the theme.
