Hi Canvas Community
We have an assignment that was created for a Canvas course without the TurnItIn option being enabled.
The teacher has now added the TurnItIn option to the assignment - however, all the students had already submitted their final drafts last week into Canvas.
Do any of you gurus know if it is possible for us (admin or teacher) to now submit the assignments through TurnItIn? Or, is this something that only the students can do at the time of submission?
Any advice will be very gratefully welcomed.
Thanks
Cath

Hi @CatherineLittle,
Unfortunately, as you've discovered, it's generally not possible to configure Turnitin after submissions have been made and have it go back and check the earlier submissions. I think that's by design, so students all know and agree to their papers being checked by Turnitin. The only way to have them checked within Canvas at this point would be to have the papers resubmitted now that Turnitin is configured properly. I'd strongly suggest that students should do this themselves, but the teacher may be able to use the "submit on behalf of" feature if that's enabled in your Canvas instance.

Looks like there may have been an update since your issue occurred.
I can now choose to add Turnitin Plagiarism Framework to my assignment retroactively (as long as due date hasn't been passed) even when students have submitted work, and then via SpeedGrader you can find the button "Resubmit to Turnitin Plagiarism Framework":
