Hello  @richvl17  Welcome to the Canvas Community.  Thanks for posting your message.  Canvas does not include a spell checker tool.  Rather, spell checkers are included in the web browser you are using...such as Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox.  Usually, you would see any misspelled words underlined in red.  This is an archived Feature Idea located in Cold Storage‌ group that you can look through which has some more discussion on the topic: https://community.canvaslms.com/ideas/7224" modifiedtitle="true" title="Spell Checker in Discussion ....  If you are not a part of Cold Storage‌, please click on the link I gave to this group, and then click on the "Follow" button at the top right corner of the screen.  Also, near that button is an "Actions" menu.  Go there, and then choose "Join group".

Hope this helps.

This would be a great feature to add. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think web browsers have a way to "run" spell-check; they just automatically underline potential misspellings, right? Having the spell-checker in the discussion-board page rather than in the browser would be more like the way they do it for a Word document (essay). They could get into the habit of doing it that way.

You're correct that Canvas doesn't have a built-in spell checker...as it uses your web browser to check for spelling (as you've described)...underlining misspelled words.
