Sudden late work penalty

In the past few days, students have received notification and lower grades for late work. I do have a late work penalty established in Canvas, but these are for assignments early in the semester. Any ideas about why this is occurring now and on a global fix? Thanks!

In the Gradebook, the late work policy can be found by clicking on the Gear icon in the upper righthand corner. This policy is "global." If you turn it on, it affects all of the students' assignments. Either it's on or it's off. You can't have it apply to some assignments and not others.
