VHL Assignments Duplicating in Canvas after students take them

Has anyone else worked with the Vista Higher Learning (VHL) integration, and noticed that after an assignment has been set up and the gradebook has been synced, when students start completing the assignment it generates a second assignment "shell". This shell records the record of the submission and shows the synced grade in the gradebook, but the original assignment set up is the one that links to VHL and shows the actual activity completion information?
I have captured a screen recording of this phenomenon during out team's testing. I am wondering if anyone else has experienced this, and know why it occurs and how to resolve it:
