Answer Key for Essay Questions

Hello,

I'm an instructor creating quizzes with short answer and essay-style questions in Canvas. These questions require open-ended responses because students may phrase correct answers in different ways. However, there are still definitive answers that I use for grading.

Unfortunately, Canvas doesn't currently support attaching an answer key directly to each question for the grader’s reference. While there is a feature to leave general feedback for students, there’s no equivalent option to leave notes or answer keys for graders. This makes grading more time-consuming.

It would be extremely helpful to have a built-in feature that allows instructors to attach answer keys to each question—visible only during grading—to streamline the process.

Hello,

New quizzes have a feature called "Grading Notes."

I suppose this feature is close to what you need.

If you enter text in the "Grading Notes," it will be displayed on the SpeedGrader grading screen.

My course was built using classic quizzes and not the new quizzes. 

Is there any solution with the classic quiz version or do I need to re-do all of my quizzes?

Unfortunately, Classic Quiz doesn't seem to have that feature.
(Experts, if my information is incorrect please let us know in the reply.)
You can migrate your Classic quizzes to the new quizzes, so please give it a try if you'd like.

Hi @KatPietrantonio,

Have you considered:

• if you want an answer key for students, creating a Canvas page and then publish it after all submissions have been graded?
• if you want grading notes for graders, creating a Canvas page but do not publish it?
