access to all quiz attempts

PSA: I'm a newbe to Canvas.

I would like to repost a completed quiz and give students another shot at it. However, I would like to retain their scores to both attempts. Can I do this by, say, copying the quiz to a new quiz?  If so, HOW? This would be ideal. The reason for wanting to retain both quizzes is that it gives me more freedom to personalize my assessment of a student's knowledge. I teach stats and well know the loss of information that can result from using summary statistics such as the average or the maximum. Best to have all the data when possible.

When a student takes a quiz multiple times, those attempts are all logged for you within your SpeedGrader.  They are date and time stamped so that you can see exactly when they were submitted.  Check out this Guide:

In particular, look at the section on "Evaluate Multiple Submissions".  There's a drop-down list at the top right corner of the SpeedGrader when a student submits something to you multiple times.  You can select whichever attempt you want, and it will show the answers of the quiz that the student selected during that attempt.

Thanks! It's better than nothing. The thing is that I have 200 students. Going through each on Speed Grader would take a lot of time. Much easier if I just had both sets of scores.

My alternative would be to rename the given quiz as a new quiz. Is something like that possible?

I don't think re-naming the quiz is the right way to go...unless I am misunderstanding your question.  You had mentioned in your initial question the possibility of making a copy of the quiz.  You could certainly do that...but that would create another graded column in your Gradebook...which would then increase the overall total score of all your assignments for your course.  Is that okay with you?  You said you wanted to retain both scores...but do you want both scores factoring into the overall total of the course?  If you don't want both scores factoring into the total, then having them re-take the same quiz and then viewing those attempts as I explained earlier is probably the way to go.

You asked about how to duplicate a quiz...  there are a couple ways to do this:

• How do I copy a quiz to another course? -- During this process, you can just type in the name of the same course that you are already in ... instead of copying the quiz to another course
• How do I select specific content as part of a course import? -- Similar to the first bullet, during this process, you would select the same course that you are already in.  Canvas may give you a warning message, but that's fine.  It should create a duplicate of the quiz for you.

I would be careful. The notes warn you that this will happen. 

• If you copy the same quiz to the same course more than once, the quiz you previously copied will be overwritten with the newly copied quiz.

However, I tested this and it worked.  It resulted with two quizzes with the exact same name.  I didn't think was possible as I thought every activity in a course required it's own name.

Yes...same results.  I tried both methods to make copies of quizzes I had in my own sandbox course.  In both methods, a duplication of the quiz was created...not overwritten.  Each quiz has their own ID number in the URL ... so I can tell which one is the newer (the higher ID number) of the two.  They have the same name when duplicated.  Hope this helps!

You might try sending a copy of the quiz to yourself instead.  This would give you time to rename the original quiz in your course, before you started the import.
